the pennies that are red are usually from 1982 and before. this is when they were still using copper in them. now days theya re using cheaper metals and they dont seem to hold up to the weather and moisture as much. the 82 and below tend to be a tad bit more valuable due tot he copper content. they are worth more as scrap then as currency.
